Volcano CHT on the Sprite Hotend
I have been putting all sorts of crazy upgrades on my Ender 2 Pro.
The latest addition was a Volcano CHT nozzle from Bondtech.
I got some insane print speeds out of this machine - it even beat my old fastest printer - the Ender 3000, which was using dual copper heater blocks, over 140W of nozzle power, and a dual gear direct drive extruder.
I tried a volcano CHT on the Artillery Sidewinder just before this, and honestly, I was not impressed. I only saw a modest 10-20% increase in print speed. This is most likely due to the inferior titan extruder, with its single drive gear.
However, things were completely different when I tried it on my Sprite hotend. I think I could go as high as 120 mm³/s if my firmware wasn’t limiting my max temperature. Will have to try this on a machine running Klipper to push the outer limits, but initial results showed amazing results at 35 mm³/s and passable results 75 mm³/s.
This nozzle maintained better print quality at those higher extrusion rates, and had a seemingly limitless capacity to melt filament. At the speeds I was going towards the end of the video, the plastic was only being exposed to the melt zone for a fraction of a second, but still put out a great amount of plastic!
I will be revisiting this with some more thorough testing. And I have plans to get that Artillery Sidewinder X2 up to speed… LGX Incoming!
If the Volcano form factor isn’t for you, you might be interested in the standard sized CHT. Check out my other videos and test data while you’re at it!
